IRVING, Texas - A total of 15 UAB student-athletes are among those having earned the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal during the 2006-07 academic year, Commissioner Britton Banowsky has announced. The medals are given to C-USA student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or above during the academic year.

In all, 321 C-USA student-athletes have earned the Commissioner's Academic Medal during the academic year, a number that has increased by more than 30 percent this season.

The UAB student-athletes honored for their academic success are: Jonathan Merritt, Baseball; Mikael Saway, Baseball; Ben Shelley, Baseball; Katherine Horton, Women's Cross Country/Track & Field; Tracy Rowan, Women's Cross Country/Track & Field; Jennifer Thompson, Women's Cross Country/Track & Field; Carolyn Cochran, Women's Golf; Amy Jacobson, Rifle; Jeremy Drake, Men's Soccer; Drew Knaub, Men's Soccer; Lukasz Kwapisz, Men's Soccer; Danielle Blair, Women's Soccer; Stevie Bennett, Softball; Sara Petrov, Synchronized Swimming; Casey Dent, Volleyball
