New Play-By-Play Voice Named For Blazers ISP Sports Network
June 20, 2007 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Officials for ISP Sports and UAB Athletics have named David Crane as the new radio play-by-play broadcaster for the Blazers ISP Sports Network. Crane, who has served in both on-air and studio production roles for Learfield Communications and ISP Sports at the University of Alabama, replaces Cory Provus who left UAB to join the Chicago Cubs WGN affiliate. Tony Grillo, general manager of the Blazers ISP Sports Network, said, "We received interest from all over the country and all level of sports. We were really looking for someone who was talented as both a radio voice and a TV personality, and in the end, it was obvious to us that David was a perfect fit." Crane will serve as the play-by-play voice of the Blazers as well as hosting and assisting with production for the Blazers All-Access program on both radio and television. He will also assist with sponsorship sales. Of his selection, Crane said, "I can't tell you how thrilled and honored I am to be a member of the UAB family and the Voice of the Blazers. I look forward to building a relationship with the UAB fans, the coaches and the entire administration." UAB athletic director Brian Mackin, said, "We are very excited about welcoming David to UAB, and I know our fans will be as enthusiastic as I am about having someone of his talent as the Voice of the Blazers." David Crane will join former Blazers Kevin Drake and Jake Arians during football broadcasts and will work alongside UAB basketball's all-time leading scorer, Steve Mitchell, during Blazer basketball broadcasts.
