Blazers Basketball To Air On WUHT-FM For 2008-09 Season

Nov. 13, 2008

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB fans will be able to hear each and every game of the 2008-09 men's basketball season on Birmingham's WUHT-FM "HOT" 107.7, the Blazers ISP Sports Network announced on Thursday.

The first game of the season is Saturday when the Blazers travel to Troy for a 2 p.m. tipoff. The UAB football team will be in New Orleans on Saturday playing Tulane at the same time. That game will be carried in Birmingham on WWMM-FM live 100.5 and on the Blazers ISP Sports Network.

"Early in the season there are always overlapping games, and this season is no different," said David Crane, the Director of Broadcasting for the Blazers ISP Sports Network. "We are excited to be able to air both the football and basketball games this weekend, and we greatly appreciate the help and support of Citadel Broadcasting here in Birmingham, without which we couldn't pull it off."

UAB football has aired on WWMM-FM "live 100.5" in Birmingham this season. ISP Sports decided once basketball games would air at the beginning of the season on WUHT-FM it would be easier for fans to follow the action if all the games aired on "HOT 107.7" in 2008-09.

"Several factors were involved in our decision," Crane said. "Everyone felt it would be better to keep the basketball games on the same station all year, and WWMM-FM is still in the early stages of its format change. We think UAB basketball is a good fit for WUHT-FM, and we thank their great staff for their willingness to help us out."

In addition, several weeks of the radio call-in show "Blazers All-Access" will move to WUHT-FM during the early stages of basketball season due to other programming conflicts.

The UAB-Tulane football game kicks off at 2 PM on Saturday, and pre-game coverage on WWMM-FM (100.5) will begin at 12:30 PM with David Crane, Jake Arians and Pat Green calling the action. The UAB-Troy basketball game tips off at 2 PM, and pre-game on WUHT-FM (107.7) will start at 1:30 PM with J.D. Byars and former Blazer standout Steve Mitchell on the call.

ISP Sports is based out of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and is multi-media rights holder for UAB and more than 50 schools and properties across the country.
