Mike Jones, MAE, ATC/L NREMT-I
Head Athletic Trainer

Mike Jones joined UAB Athletic Training Staff in 1999 and is the Head Athletic Trainer. Jones was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director in August of 2005. A former Blazer football letterman, Jones joined the UAB program in 1993 when he transferred from Jones Community College in Ellisville, Miss. He was among the first scholarship class in the history of UAB football. A 1996 graduate of UAB in secondary education, Jones earned his Masters Degree in health education while serving as a graduate assistant in the athletic training program in 1997. The following year, he served as a staff athletic trainer at the University of Cincinnati. Jones returned to Birmingham in 1999 as an Associate Athletic Trainer at the UAB Sports Medicine Clinic before returning to the Blazer football program. Jones is Vice-President of the Alabama State Association of Athletic Trainers. Jones is married to the former Heloise Belarmino of Macon, Ga. They have two daughters: Kerrigan Elise and Mackenzie Grayson.
Bryan Koch, M.Ed, ATC/L
Assistant Athletic Trainer

A native of Vincennes, Indiana, Bryan received a bachelor's of science from Indiana State University in 1998. He went on to receive his M.Ed. in Athletic Administration at Auburn University, where he was responsible for the Auburn baseball team. In 2000-2001, Bryan was the men's basketball athletic trainer for Samford University until he joined UAB in 2001 as the assistant football athletic trainer. Bryan currently works with the UAB men's basketball team and is the supervisor of all men's Olympic sports.
Patrick Sawyer, MS, ATC/L
Assistant Athletic Trainer

Patrick Sawyer joined the UAB program as an assistant athletic trainer in July 2006. Sawyer comes to UAB after two years at Hoover High School, where he served as the head athletic trainer for the entire athletic department. Sawyer received his master's in athletic training in 2001 while serving as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at the University of Kentucky. A 1998 graduate of Auburn University in health promotion, Sawyer has worked with many different teams over the years. While at Auburn, Sawyer assisted the football, men's basketball, and men's tennis team. He is the assistant athletic trainer with football and supervises baseball. A native of Hanceville, AL, Sawyer is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association, the Southeast Athletic Trainers' Association, and the Alabama Athletic Trainers' Association. Sawyer was married to the former Dawn Wentzell on July 17, 2004. They have one child: Connor James.
Mandy Miller, MS, ATC/L, CSCS
Assistant Athletic Trainer
Mandy Miller began her first year as an assistant athletic trainer at UAB in the fall of 2006. She oversees all of the Blazers' women's sports, but works directly with the women's basketball team. Miller, a 1998 graduate of UAB, received her bachelor's degree in Health Promotions before going on to earn her master's degree in Sports Management from the University of Tennessee in 2006. While at Tennessee, she served as a graduate assistant in the Athletic Training department, serving as the athletic trainer for the Lady Vols swimming and diving team. During her time as an undergraduate at UAB, Miller was a member of the Blazers' volleyball team from 1993-96. Miller is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association as well as certified in strength and conditioning through the NSCA.
Liz Landrum, M.Ed, ATC/L
Assistant Athletic Trainer

Liz Landrum joined the UAB program as an assistant athletic trainer in August of 2006. Landrum comes to UAB after completing her master's degree in Athletic Training at the University of Virginia in July of 2006. While at UVA, Landrum assisted with the football and men's and women's tennis teams. A 2004 graduate of the University of Florida, Landrum received her bachelor's degree in Exercise and Sport Sciences with a concentration in Athletic Training. At UF, Landrum assisted with football, the on-campus rehabilitation clinic, and intramurals. A native of Jacksonville, FL, Landrum is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association and the College Athletic Trainers' Association.
Kelly Melton, MS, ATC/L
Assistant Athletic Trainer

Kelly Melton joined the UAB program as an assistant athletic trainer in August of 2007. Melton came to UAB from Millasps College where she spent four years in the athletic training department. While there, Melton had a hand in helping each of the school's 14 sports, working mainly with men's and women's soccer and softball. Melton obtained her master's degree from Georgia State, and she worked as a graduate assistant at Emory University. During her two seasons at Emory, Melton worked primarily with men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, swimming and diving, and softball. The Louisville, KY, native is a 2001 graduate of the University of Louisville, earning her degree in physical education with a concentration in exercise science, while also receiving a minor in sports administration. She spent four years as a student athletic trainer at Louisville. Melton is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association and College Athletic Trainers' Society.
