BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB took first place in theteam, trio, duet and solo categories as the Blazer synchronized swimming team defeated Keuka (N.Y.) College90-75 in a dual meet Saturday evening at Bell Aquatic Center.

The UAB team of Luna Aguilu, Hannah Freer, Kristen Kramer, Erica Levine, Kara Morgan, Moraine Ruddick and Sarah Pikal took the team competition with a score of 87.683, edging the Keuka team of Emily Brewer, Bethany Jones, Inga Todd and Jessica Trainer that finished with a score of 85.133.  The Keuka team of Ali Brunton, Chihiro Kinoshita, Kathy Lockwood, Amy McGeoch, Whitney Powers, and Erin St. Romain finished third at 80.100.

UAB finished first and second in the trio competition.  Jessica Brown, Amanda Haeuser, and Bogdana Zareva took first place with a score of 86.600, followed by Aguilu, Jennifer Holmquist and Stacy Leiker in second at 84.067.  Keuka's Brewer, Jones and Todd finished third at 82.400.


 

 

The Blazers also took first and second place in the duet competition, as Haeuser and Zareva finished first with a score of 86.133 and twins Stephanie and Stacey Jackson finished came in second place 83.800. 

UAB's Zareva put a finishing touch on the victory with a first place finish in the solo competition, posting a score of 88.267.  Keuka swimmers Brewer and Todd finished second and third, with scores of 83.267 and 82.667, respectively.

UAB returns to action Jan. 26 in a meet at the University of Arizona in Tucson, and will host Ohio State at Bell Aquatic Center on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 6:30 pm CST.
