Defending National Champion Ohio State Tops UAB At Bell Aquatics Center
Feb. 3, 2001 BIRMINGHAM, Ala... The Ohio State synchronized swimming team topped UAB with a total score of 108 to UAB's 88 in a duel meet at Bell Aquatics Center on the campus of UAB. Bogdana Zareva placed second in the solo routines for the Blazers, scoring a 90.133. The trio routines saw UAB's Luna Aguilu, Rossitza Loukanova and Moraine Ruddick take third (85.00) and Jessica Brown, Kelli Dickerson and Stacy Leiker placed fourth (82.200). In the duet routines, Aguilu and Loukanova garnered a third place finish (84.867) and Brown and Zareva took fourth (84.800). The Blazers took second in the team routines, scoring an 88.133. "We have had some excellent swims this year," said head coach Amy O'Donnell. "I can see a huge improvement between this year's meet against Ohio State and last year's meet against Ohio State. It's real exciting to know the potential that this team has to compete against the defending national champions and come close to beating them in some small routines. I'm very proud of the girls. They are working really, really hard."
UAB next travels to Keuka Park, N.Y. to take on Keuka in a duel meet Feb. 10.
