UAB Tops Arizona And Georgia For Second Straight Day

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB synchronized swimming team scored 88 points for the second day-in-a-row to oust Arizona and Georgia inside the Bell Aquatics Center on Sunday. UAB won all four events at the meet.

Georgia finished second with 48 points, while Arizona was third with 27 points.

The trio routine kicked off the meet with UAB finishing first and second. Freshmen Mikayla Cansler, Michele Rushfeldt and Jami Schwendau won the event with a score of 86.000, while junior Meryl Grandia and freshmen Shaina Boe and Brittany McCauley took second with a score of 79.000.

Grandia paired with junior Margareta Jakovac to win the duet routine with a mark of 89.250. Finishing in second were senior Frances Halloran and McCauley with a score of 86.750.

Jakovac won the solo routine with a score of 90.750, while freshman Talia Scatliff finished second with a mark of 88.250.

UAB won the team event with a score of 92.250. Competing in the team routine for UAB were Grandia, Halloran, Jakovac, freshman Georgia Luch, McCauley, and Rushfeldt.

 

 

The Blazers will be back in the pool on Saturday when they travel to compete against Florida at 12:00 p.m.
