UAB Pulls Away for Win Against Georgia in Synchronized Swimming

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB synchronized swimming team won its final home meet of the season on Sunday, beating Georgia, 76-73, inside Bell Aquatics Center. The meet was the second win of the season for the Blazers as defending national champion Stanford is the only team to beat UAB on the year. The Blazers ran away with the team competition as junior Frances Halloran, junior Maria Cecilia Garcia, senior Vanessa Dash, senior Andrea Dash, sophomore Meryl Grandia and senior Sara Petrov earned a score of 92.000 to beat out the Georgia team that finished with a score of 60.250. Garcia added another first place finish when she posted a mark of 90.750 in the solo event, while in the duet competition, UAB finished one-two with Grandia and Petrov taking first at 91.250 and Holloran and Garcia were second with a score of 87.500. UAB also won the trio event as Holloran, Grandia and Petrov posted a score of 88.750. The Blazers will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Palo Alto, Calif. to take on Wheaton College and Stanford on Saturday and Sunday.
