Synchronized Swimming Tops Canisius

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The UAB synchronized swimming team defeated Canisius, 88.0-79.0 on Saturday afternoon at the Canisius Invitational. The Blazers captured first place in all four events as they competed in their first meet since finishing second at the South Collegiate Regionals in San Antonio.

UAB's Sara Petrov received a score of 90.500, defeating Kristy Averell of Canisius in the solo free routine.

Petrov and Morgan Clarke then took first in the duet routine with an 89.500 while Stacey Jackson and Stephanie Jackson finished in a three-way tie for second place with an 88.000.

In the trio competition, Megan Kelly along with Stephanie and Stacey Jackson escaped with a narrow victory over the Canisus squad. Hallie Todd, Frances Halloran and Clarke captured third while Vanessa Dash, Andrea Dash and Amanda Weinstein placed fourth.

The Blazers also won the team event with a score of 90.833. Competing for UAB was Clarke, Stacey and Stephanie Jackson, Halloran, Todd, Petrov, Kelly and Weinstein.
