May 1, 2004

STANFORD, Calif. - The UAB synchronized swimming team notched a fifth place finish in the team event at the U.S. National Synchronized Swimming Championships, held at Avery Aquatic Center. The UAB team of Amanda Haeuser, Stacey Jackson, Stephanie Jackson, Megan Kelly, Stacy Leiker, Kara Morgan, Sara Petrov and Hallie Todd posted an overall score of 93.400.

The Santa Clara Aquamaids won the team event, posting an overall score of 97.284. Ohio State University and Walnut Creek finished second and third with scores of 95.800 and 95.450 respectively.

The Aquamaids swept all three final events, also claiming first and third in solo and duet to win the club's 13th consecutive overall title and 12th consecutive team title.

The Blazers placed fifth in the overall standings at the meet.

The U.S. Nationals represent the top synchronized swimming programs from all levels of competition. More than 140 athletes were vying for national titles in the solo, duet and team events at the meet.

UAB, who was making its fifth consecutive appearance at the U.S. Nationals, wrapped up an extremely successful 2003-04 campaign as the Blazers took third at the U.S. Collegiate Championships in March. UAB also won four meets on the season.
