BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB synchronized swimming team begins the 2005 season Saturday at 2 p.m. at Bell Aquatics Center when it hosts the University of Florida and Stanford University. The Blazers look to continue where they left off last year, placing third at the U.S. Collegiate Championships and fifth at the National Championships.

UAB knocked off Stanford when the teams met last season at the Stanford Tri-Meet in Palo Alto, Calif. The Blazers' squad of Amanda Haeuser, Stacey Jackson, Stephanie Jackson, Megan Kelly, Stacy Leiker, Kara Morgan, Sara Petrov and Hallie Todd placed first in the team event while Todd also took the top spot in the B figures.

The Blazers also opened the 2004 season against Florida, defeating the Gators by a score of 92-74 at Bell Aquatics Center.
