Synchronized Swimming Heads to Athens for Georgia Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. - The UAB synchronized swimming team travels to Athens, Ga., this weekend to compete in the Georgia Invitational. The Blazers defeated Georgia earlier in the season, and will be looking to capture the title after finishing second at the Southern Regionals last weekend.

Head coach Lisa Riddell's squad captured second place at the Southern Regionals tallying 100 points, just behind the 103 score put up by Incarnate Word.

UAB had solid performances in the "A" figures, as Mariana Vigneron, Sara Petrov, Morgan Clarke, and Megan Kelly all finished in the top ten with scores over 78. Vigneron placed the highest, capturing fourth with her mark of 79.476.

The solo even saw a pair of Blazers receive high marks, as Sara Petrov claimed second in the event with a score of 89.55, just one point away from a winning mark. Just behind her was Maria Garcia, who captured fourth place with a tally of 86.333.

UAB dominated the duet routine, placing two teams in the top three of the event. Clark and Petrov took 1st, outlasting the field with a score of 88.500. Hallie Todd and Frances Holloran also performed well, capturing third with a score of 87.500.

The trio portion of the Southern Regionals was also kind to UAB synchro, as the team of Kelly, Vigneron and Todd swam to a second place finish, scoring 86.833 during their routine.

The meet concluded with the team competition where the Blazers squad of Kelly, Garcia, Vigneron, Dash, Clarke, Petrov, Todd and Holloran captured first place with a score of 91.833.
