Blazers Win Georgia Invitational
March 7, 2006 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB synchronized swimming team returned to its winning ways last weekend, taking first place in the Georgia Invitational held in Athens, Ga. The Blazers scored 87 points en route to the victory, more than 15 points ahead of their closest competitor. Head coach Lisa Riddell's squad won every event they participated as they prepare to host Canisius next week at the UAB Aquatics Center. Sara Petrov kicked things off for UAB, winning the solo event with an outstanding score of 89.750. Maria Garcia Vargas also competed for the Blazers, placing second behind Petrov with a score of 85.750. Petrov, this time with the aid of teammate Morgan Clarke, won the duet competition with a score of 88.000. Hallie Todd and Frances Halloarn were right behind, capturing second place while scoring 86.500. The Dash sisters, Andrea and Vanessa, made it a clean sweep for UAB, as they took third with a score of 81.750. The trio saw more of the same, as Todd, Megan Kelly and Mariana Vigneron won the event with a score of 84.000. The team event put an exclamation pint on the Blazers' dominance, as the squad of Clarke, Dash, Halloran, Kelly, Petrov, Todd, Vargas and Vigneron took top honors with a 90.000 score.
