Petrov, Grandia Garner All-America Honors at Collegiate Championship

March 27, 2007

NORTON, Mass. - The UAB synchronized swimming team had two Blazers named All-Americans at the conclusion of this past week's Collegiate Championship at Wheaton (Mass.) College. Senior Sara Petrov became a four-time All-American, while sophomore Maryl Grandia garnered her first All-America accolade. Five of the team's six competitors were awarded for their academic achievements as well.

Academic honorees for the Blazers included seniors Andrea Dash, Vanessa Dash and Petrov and juniors Maria Cecilia Garcia and Frances Halloran.

The Blazers finished fourth at the Collegiate Championship thanks in part to finishing fourth in the team event.

Petrov was a member of the team squad that placed fourth and also earned a pair of sixth place finishes in the duet and trio competitions. Grandia competed in all three of those events with Petrov, while Halloran was the third member of the trio.

The Blazers will next be in action April 25-28 when they compete in the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, Ind.
