Bogdana Zareva Qualifies For 2004 Olympic Games
May 4, 2004 ATHENS, Greece - Former UAB synchronized swimmer Bogdana Zareva has qualified to compete in the 2004 Olympic games to be held Aug. 13-29 in Athens, Greece. Zareva and her partner Assia Anastassova will compete in the duet event for the Bulgarian National Team in the synchronized swimming competition. Zareva and Anastassova scored an 83.833 in the duet event at the Synchronized Swimming Olympic Qualification Tournament, held April 15-18 in Athens, Greece.
Zareva, a native of Sofia, Bulgaria, was a four-year letterwinner on the UAB synchronized swimming team from 1999-03. An original member of the team from its inception during the 1999-00 season, Zareva was twice named an Honorary All-American by the U.S. Synchronized Swimming Collegiate Coaches Committee. Zareva was a part of 16 meet victories and 14 first-place solo event finishes and 11 first place duet event finishes during her time at UAB. Zareva was also part of back-to-back third-place finishes for UAB at the U.S. Collegiate Championships.
