UAB Synchronized Swimming Camp To Hold Performance
Aug. 7, 2002 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB synchronized swimming campers will perform an exhibition tomorrow at Bell Aquatics Center at 11 a.m. Campers ranging in age from 9-17-years-old will perform team routines to showcase the skills they have learned from their week long attendance at the UAB synchronized swimming camp, led by Blazer head coach Amy O'Donnell. Former U.S. National Team Director Charlotte Davis will be on hand for the event. Davis has been a part of UAB's week long camp. She coached the U.S. National Team from 1984-2000 and guided the squad to a gold medal finish at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. "The UAB synchronized swimming camp is attracting synchronized swimmers from all over the country," said O'Donnell. "Having had Charlotte with us all week has really created a lot of positive exposure for UAB and for Birmingham." Thirty-two campers from all across the United States will be represented at the event, including five members of Birmingham's first synchronized swimming club team, the Birmingham Aqua Bears, a club that the UAB synchronized swimming staff helped found. Campers will be divided into four teams and each team will perform a team routine. "Thursday's show will showcase all the campers have learned from us during the week," added O'Donnell. "This will be a fun way for the community to see what these kids have been learning about synchronized swimming."
Admission to the event is free.
