UAB Track Finishes Niswonger Foundation Invitational With Strong Second Day

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. ----- The UAB women's track team took the team title in the distance medley relay en route to a successful second day at Niswonger Foundation Invitational here on Saturday. The Blazers took the title with a time of 14:06.19. UAB also had four individuals place in the top three in their events. Senior Amanda Kara won the 5000 meter run, running unattached, with a time of 18:21.83. Junior Theresa Smith finished second in the 60-meter hurdles, completing the event in 8.88. Smith is also running unattached, while testing a foot injury. In the one-mile run, Petra Ivanova finished second, while Elizabeth Ambrus placed third. Ivanova ran a 5:10.74, while Ambrus completed the run in 5:19.52. The Blazers had five more top-10 finishes during the second day. Oriana Carter placed fourth of 11 runners in the 60-meter dash after running a 7.77. In the 200-meter dash, Crystal Hunter ran a 25.55, placing her fifth in the event. Jennifer Thompson finished in sixth in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:51.37, while Adrienne Duke placed seventh in the high jump with a height of 1.61 meters. UAB's 4x400 relay team placed fifth overall after recording a time of 3:56.18.
The Blazers will next compete in the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. The meet, hosted by the University of Arkansas takes place on Feb. 13.
