INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The UAB women's track and field team continued their indoor season Saturday at the Cannon IV Classic hosted by Butler University.

Freshman Theresa Smith (Montgomery, Ala.) placed in three events in the meet. In the 60-meter hurdles, Smith finished ninth overall with a time of 8.93. In the preliminaries, she ran an 8.85. In the 60-meter dash, she placed 13th with a time of 7.85, duplicating her time of 7.85 in the preliminaries. In the 200-meter dash, Smith ran a 25.71 to finish 18th overall.

Freshman Judy Shepherd finished eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 11.50 meters (37'08.75). In the long jump, Shepherd jumped a distance of 5.12 meters (16'09.75) to finish tied for 13th.

In the 400-meter dash, three Blazer freshmen finished in the top 30. Normanie McKenzie (Powder Springs, Ga.) finished 16th (57.81), Doella Miller (Batesville, Miss.) finished 27th (58.66) and Adrienne Duke finished 30th (59.13). McKenzie's time was the fourth best time in school history.

In the 4x400-meter relay, UAB finished ninth with a time of 3:56.61. The Blazers were less than a tenth of a second off the school record of 3:56.54.

The Blazers will take a weekend off before heading to the Conference USA Indoor Championships on Feb. 22-23 in Bloomington, Ind.
