BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Freshmen Theresa Smith and Judy Shepherd placed fourth in their respective events as the UAB women's track and field team ended its indoor season at the 2002 Conference USA Indoor Championship, held at Indiana.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Smith finished with a time of 8.86, placing her fourth. In the preliminaries, Smith ran one second better with 8.85. Lauren Smith of Houston finished at the top of the pack with 8.44.

Shepherd finished fourth in the triple jump with a 11.96-meter jump. Toni Kilgore of East Carolina jumped 12.22 meters to place first in the event.

In the 4x400-meter relay, UAB placed eighth with a time of 3:53.35. All freshmen, the team consisted of Normanie McKenzie, Elace Minnifield, Doella Miller and Adrienne Duke.

The Blazers will start their outdoor season on March 15-16 at the FSU Snowbird Invite.
