AUBURN - The UAB women's track and field earned three top-five honors Saturday at the talent-filled Auburn Invitational.

The Blazers had a good showing in the field events, as Meredith George garnered a tie for fourth in the high jump, Yolanda Cooper finished fifth in the long jump and Laura Strunk placed fourth in the javelin throw.

George jumped 1.50-meters in the high jump to tie with Auburn's Ashley Page. In the long jump, Cooper hit the 5.62-meter mark, and Strunk had a 27.03 throw in the javelin.

In the running events, meanwhile, Normanie McKenzie took sixth in the 400-meter dash. McKenzie was clocked at 56.77 in a strong field won by South Alabama's Kanissoko Dado (53.78). UAB's Elace Minnifield finished 10th with a time of 57.99, and Anna Parker rounded out the field with a 1:05.35.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Theresa Smith and Judy Shepherd finished sixth and seventh, respectively, with times of 14.55 and 14.87. Doella Miller also finished 14th in the 200-meter dash (25.13).

The Blazers will be back in action next Saturday at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Penn.
