Blazer Relay Teams Post Strong Showing at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. Ð The UAB women's 4x100-meter and 4x200-meter relay teams posted strong showings at the talent-rich Penn Relays Friday and Saturday. The 4x100-meter relay team finished third in it's heat, only behind West Virginia and Maryland. The team, made up of freshmen Theresa Smith, junior Doella Miller, freshman Crystal Hunter and senior Yolanda Cooper, finished the heat with a time of 48.38. In the 4x200-meter relay, Smith, Hunter and Miller were joined by freshman Normanie McKenzie to complete the four-woman team. UAB posted a time of 1:40.23, placing them in 17th overall out of 90 schools. Their time marked the fifth fastest outdoor 4x200-meter time in school history.
The Blazers have pulled out of the Georgia Invite originally scheduled for May 4 in order to give the team a two week rest before heading to the Conference USA Championship in Louisville, Ky. May 10-11.
