Meredith George finished tied for fourth in the high jump and was the top finisher for UAB at the Conference USA Track and Field Championships at the University of South Florida, in Tampa.

Tulane won the team competition with 145 points. Houston finished second with 135 points and South Florida was third at 122. The Blazers were 11th with 7.5 points.

George had a leap of 5-feet, 6 1/2 inches, tying Amber Bollinger of Cincinnati. They were just two inches of the winning jump by Tulane's Jenny Isgren. Adrienne Barnette of Charlotte and Hope Sinclair of Southern Miss, tied for second, also with jumps of 5'6 1/2 inches. They earned the second place points based on fewer misses.

Donna Pucke picked up UAB's other points finishing sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.01. Jessica Crump of Southern Miss won the event with a time of 2:12.08.

Laura Strunk was 14th in the shot put with a toss of 31'1 3/4 inches. Amanda Kara and Cara Bates were 18th and 26th in the 5,000 meters. Kara had a time of 18:30.51 and Bates ran in 21:00.51.

Carla Kelly ran the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:59.08 and the 800 meters in a time of 2:31.61, but did not advance to the finals. Karen Werner and Christie Caywood, also did not advance to the finals in the 800 meters. Werner ran a time of 2:20.96 and Caywood had a time of 2:29.23.
