BIRMINGHAM - Senior UAB cross country runner Carla Kelly (Auburn, Ala.) finished second in the 6,000-meter run at the District 9 Preview held early this morning at Magic City Running Park.

Due to an unfortunate mishap in the women's event, only the top-two women finished the correct course. All other runners were misled and ran approximately 7,500-meters skewing the times for the event. Team results were not kept due to this error.

Kelly finished the race with a time of 25:51.97. Jenn Feenstra of Georgia State found her way around the course in a time of 21:26.76 to win the event.

UAB junior Donna Pucke (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished in 22nd place with a time of 29:48.36.

In the men's 8,000-meter event, Eastern Kentucky finished with 22 points to claim first place. Samford finished second with 44 points followed by Western Kentucky (70), Vanderbilt (126), Birmingham-Southern (128), West Georgia (139), Jacksonville State (221) and Northwest Shoals Junior college (243).

Individually, Georgia State's Giovanni Gentiluomo took first place with a time of 26:52.48 followed by Enda Grandfield of Western Kentucky at 26:53.28.

The UAB women are back in action on Oct. 20 when they travel to Troy, Ala. for the Troy State Invite.
