Birmingham, Ala. - The UAB women's cross country team started their season off with a win at the Howard Bentley Cross Country Invitational hosted by University of Alabama in Huntsville. The team finished the 5K event with 39 points, beating West Georgia (82) and UAH (98).

The Blazers had four finishers in the top ten. Freshman Andrea Burdett lead the team with a time of 19:43, 16 seconds behind first place finisher Joni Guffey of Clayton State. Freshman Amanda Bradford placed sixth with a time of 20:10 while junior Carla Kelly finished seventh with a time of 20:10 and sophomore Rina Kara placed tenth with a time of 20:19.

The Blazers next meet will be on September 16 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. where they will compete in the Crimson Classic.
