BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB track and field team is on the road this weekend to Baton Rouge, La. to participate in the Purple and Gold Classic.

The Blazers are looking for a repeat of last weekend's performances though head coach Ray Stanfield expects the competition to be stiff. UAB is coming off a fourth place finish at the Saluki Invitational in Carbondale, Ill., as well as an outstanding performance a week earlier at the Tennessee All-Comers meet in Knoxville, Tenn.

Sophomore Theresa Smith has lead the Blazers so far with her performances in the 55-meter hurdles as she has taken first place at both meets. Smith was named Conference USA's Athlete of the Week after her impressive performance at the Saluki Invitational.
