CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.--- The UAB track and field team had a successful showing at the Southeast Missouri State meet here Friday after three weeks of hard practice. The Blazers finished the competition in second place with impressive individual finishes.

Sophomore Theresa Smith led the team with her first-place finish in the women's 55-meter hurdles with a new career record of 8.00. Smith also took second in the women's high jump with a leap of 18-3 and tying for fourth place in the 200-meters (25.9).

Senior Dina Katsoulis placed eighth in the shot put with a throw of 36-2. Junior Amanda Kara took first place in the mile run with a time of 5:18.0, while teammate Doella Miller also tied for first place in the 300-meters with a time of 42.2. Miller also placed third in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.29. Senior Donna Pucke took second in the 600-meters with a time of 1:39.1.

Freshman Olivia Ross-Hurst tied for second with fellow Blazer Adrienne Duke in the women's high jump with a leap of 5-3. Ross-Hurst also finished in fifth place in the women's long jump (16-10), as well as the 600-meters with a time of 1:44.8.

UAB's Elace Minnifield placed third in the 600-meters with a time of 42.3, followed by fellow teammate Normaine McKenzie with a time of 42.4. Sophomore Anna Parker placed fourth in the women's 55-meter hurdles (9.66), followed by Jan Parker in fifth (9.96).

UAB team A finished in second place in the 4X400 relay with a time of 4:01.0, followed by UAB team B in third with a time of 4:14.3.

Next up for the Blazers is the Conference USA Championships Feb. 28, in Houston, Texas.
