UAB Track and Field Will Divide Time Between Two Meets This Weekend
April 15, 2004 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB's distance runners will participate in the Vanderbilt Invitational on Friday before joining the rest of the team in Oxford, Miss., for the Ole Miss Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. The Blazers are returning to the track after taking a week off from competition. "We will split the team up somewhat this weekend," said UAB head coach Ray Stanfield. "I will take several of the distance girls to Vanderbilt on Friday evening for a twilight meet. Then on Saturday the team will unite at Ole Miss. This gives the distance girls the same format as the conference championships. After a week off the girls are excited about competing at Ole Miss. This has traditionally been a very competitive meet with SEC and Conference USA schools in attendance."
The Blazers placed third overall at the 2004 Coach O Invitational hosted by Troy State as they finished with 93 points. Genoah Collins took the title in the 800-meters for the Blazers with a time of 2:14.31. UAB set four personal bests in the meet as Crystal Hunter (200-meters), Emry McKay (Mile run), Shauntae Lockett (200-meters) and Judy Shepherd (100-meter hurdles) all set new career-bests.
