BIRMINGHAM, Ala.----- UAB track and field head coach Ray Stanfield announced the signing of Georgia native Shauntel Jennings for the 2005 season on Wednesday. Jennings is the Blazers' third signee of the current period.

The Lithonia High school runner is the teammate of Christi Walton, who signed with UAB in the early signing period.

"Shauntel adds to the group of outstanding middle distance runners we have already signed," said Stanfield. "She is a teammate of another signee, Christi Walton, and we are very fortunate to get a young lady of this caliber."

The Lithonia, Ga. native runs the 400 and 800-meters. She is currently ranked fifth in the state of Georgia in both events.

She joins Stacey Adewakun and Erica Russ as signees for the current period. Taresa Chatman, Tracy Rowan, Tara Colvin, Elizabeth Hilligross and Walton who all signed with the Blazers during the early period in November.
