The UAB track and field team will compete at the Samford Twilight on Saturday. This is the first and only time the Blazers will compete in Birmingham this season. Field events begin at 2 p.m., followed by track events at 4:30 p.m.

"This weekend's meet at Samford serves as the closest thing to a home meet that we have," said UAB head coach Ray Stanfield. "The girls are excited about running in Birmingham and I'm looking for a solid performance for our team."

UAB placed third overall at the 2004 Ole Miss Invitational last weekend. The Blazers' Oriana Carter qualified for regionals in the 100-meters with a time of 11.73, good enough for second place. The relay team won the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 46.17, a new season-best. In the 800-meters, Genoah Collins placed third and set a new school record with a time of 2:12.14.
