BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB track and field team heads to the Conference USA Outdoor Championships in Charlotte, N.C. this week. The three-day competition will begin Thursday May 15 with the heptathlon and conclude Saturday with the 4X400 meter relays.

The Blazers finished the 2002 C-USA meet in 13th place overall. Heading into the final 2003 meet, sophomore Theresa Smith is ranked second among conference competitors in the 100-meter hurdles with her time of 13.73, which has already qualified her for the NCAA Regionals in June.

Fellow Blazer Donna Pucke is ranked seventh in the 800-meter run (2:14.12) and Amanda Kara is ranked sixth in the 10,000-meter run (37:59.79). The UAB relay team is currently ranked fourth after a school record-breaking run of 3:46.42 at the Mississippi Invitational.
