BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The Blazers qualified an individual and a relay team for the Midwest Region Championships on May 28-29 in Baton Rouge, La., as Theresa Smith and UAB's 4x100-meter relay team will compete. Smith will participate in the 100-meter hurdles. The Blazers will compete in the preliminaries on Friday, with the final rounds taking place on Saturday.

UAB finished in ninth at the 2004 Conference USA Championships to end the regular season on May 15. The Blazers tallied 47 points on the weekend, including 42 on the final day of competition. UAB's highest finish came when Genoah Collins placed second in the 800-meters. In addition to Collins, the Blazers tallied four more top-five finishes. In the 4x100-meter relay, UAB finished in fourth, Smith placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, while Judy Shepherd was fifth with a personal-best time in the same event. In the 400-meter hurdles, Amanda Hart was fourth overall.
