Andy Eggerth Named Assistant Track and Field Coach At Kansas State

Aug. 16, 2006

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- Andy Eggerth, an assistant track and field coach at UAB the past three years, has joined the coaching staff at Kansas State in a similar position.

Eggerth, who was involved in coaching the Blazer sprinters, hurdlers and field event performers, will assist K-State head coach Cliff Rovelto in coaching the jumps and combined events.

UAB head coach Ray Stanfield will not only have to fill the position created by Andy's departure, but he will also be looking for a replacement for Andy's wife, Agne Eggerth. Agne, a two-time member of the Lithuanian Olympic Team, also has been a member of the Blazers' coaching staff the last three seasons. She served as a volunteer assistant her first two years in Birmingham before being named assistant track and field coach last year.

"Andy and Agne did a great job here at UAB," said Stanfield. "Their enthusiasm and expertise benefited the program immensely in the last three years. I wish them good luck at K-State, and I look forward to filling those positions with another duo of great assistants."

While with the Blazers, Andy Eggerth helped guide the Blazer athletes to nine school records, six qualifiers for the NCAA Regional Championship and one NCAA Indoor Championship provisional qualifier.

In addition to his collegiate coaching efforts, Eggerth has coached a number of post-collegians in the Pan-American Games, European Championships, World Championships and the Olympic Games.

Eggerth is a 2000 graduate of Bemidji (Minn.) State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in sport management. While at Bemidji State, Eggerth was voted the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Athlete of the Year in 2000 and set 16 school records, one NSIC record and was an NCAA regional qualifier in six events.
