Box Score

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-- The UAB baseball team clinched a series victory against Memphis with a 6-3 win over the Tigers on Saturday afternoon at Young Memorial Field. Blazers' starting pitcher Jeff Brown improved to 5-2 on the season after working eight innings and tying a season-high with eight strikeouts. UAB improves to 6-5 in Conference USA, 21-10 overall while the Tigers fall to 2-9 in C-USA, 8-19 overall.

Centerfielder Clint Toomey was one of UAB's leaders offensively, going 2-for-4 with a career-high three runs batted in. Nathan McCorkle also went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Blazers, extending his season-high hitting streak to seven games. UAB closer Eric Roberts worked a scoreless ninth, picking up his seventh save of the season.

A two-out double into the right-center field gap by McCorkle in the bottom of the first inning scored Zac Ward with the first run of the game. Cole Helms would follow with a line drive single into right field, scoring McCorkle and giving UAB a 2-0 lead.

After Memphis' Adam Amar's fourth home run of the season cut UAB's in half in the top of the second, the Blazers scored three times in the bottom of the inning. With Bond on second base after a leadoff double and Ryan Metcalf at first after a walk, Toomey laced a two-run triple down the right field line, his team-leading third three-bagger of the year. An RBI groundout by Levi Patmon scored Toomey and extended the Blazers' lead to 5-1.

The Blazers and Tigers wrap up their series with game three on Sunday at 1 p.m. All children 14 and under will be allowed to run the bases after the game.
