Blazers Edge South Florida, 61-59

Box Score

TAMPA, Fla. ----- Senior Sidney Ball drilled a three-pointer with just 0.8 seconds remaining to lift the UAB men's basketball team to a 61-59 win at USF. With the win, the Blazers (18-8, 11-4 Conference USA) recorded their 11th Conference USA win of the season, setting a new school record for C-USA wins in a season.

Ball's shot came after a furious USF rally. Down two points late in the game, South Florida (7-19, 1-14) took a 59-58 lead with 11 seconds left on a driving layup by Terrence Leather, who was fouled and converted the free throw.

After a timeout, Mo Finley took the ball to the middle of the lane and found a wide open Ball in the corner.

"That was probably the biggest shot of my career," said Ball. "It feels good that it went in, but it even feels better to get the win. We never gave up throughout the whole game."

Senior Gabe Kennedy led the Blazers with 16 points on the night. Finley and Ball each added 11, while Demario Eddins had 11 points and a game-high nine boards. Combined, the seniors scored 42 of the team's 61-point total.

Leather led all scorers with 20 points, while Bradley Mosley was the only other Bull to reach double figures with 10 points.

"This was a great team win," UAB head coach Mike Anderson said. "You have to give credit to coach (Robert) McCullum because his team came out hungry and shot the ball well, especially in the second half. I am very proud of the way our guys fought and and never gave up."

UAB began the game with a 11-4 run and led by as many as 14 points in the first half, before taking a 36-24 lead into the break. After shooting 44.7 percent in the first half, the Blazers shot just 29 percent from the field after halftime to let South Florida back into the game.

UAB will next close out the regular season when it faces the TCU Horned Frogs on Saturday at Noon. Prior to the game, the Blazers will honor the five seniors on this year's squad.

The game will also be Jerome Mincy bobblehead giveaway as the first 1,500 fans ages 13 and over will receive a bobblehead doll of the school's all-time leading rebounder.
