Men's Basketball Downs Cal State-Northridge By 10

HONOLULU (AP) - LeAndrew Bass scored 22 points to lead Alabama-Birmingham over Cal State-Northridge 71-61 Thursday night in the opening game of the round-robin Nike Festival. Eric Batchelor scored 10 of his 18 points in the second half as the Blazers (5-3) pulled away from a 33-33 halftime tie with the Matadors (6-4). Batchelor paced a 19-11 UAB run at the outset of the second half with eight points. The Blazers never trailed after halftime. John Burrell led Cal State-Northridge with 20 points in only 21 minutes. David Walker had 12 points and 11 rebounds for UAB, and Igor Nikolic added 10 points. Brian Heinle scored 16 points and Jeff Parris added 15 for the Matadors The Matadors shot only 37.5 percent from the field, while UAB out-rebounded
Cal State-Northridge 40-31.
