UAB Set To Face Off Against USF On The Road

March 2, 2004

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB men's basketball team is set for Wednesday's game against the USF Bulls in Tampa, Fla. The contest, which will be televised on CSS, is set to tip off at 6 p.m. CST with Matt Coulter doing play-by-play and John Kresse handling the color commentary.

UAB and USF will be meeting for the 51st time in the series' history - the most of any school in UAB's history. The Blazers own an all-time record of 31-19 in the series, and have won three in a row in the series; however, the two teams have split the last eight contests.

The Blazers (17-8, 10-4 C-USA) are still in the hunt for a Conference USA regular season title, as well as a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Most recently, the Blazers took an 87-69 win over Marquette last Saturday. UAB is led by senior guard Mo Finley who has team highs of 13.0 ppg and 48 threes made. Gabe Kennedy averages a team-high 5.5 boards per contest, while also contributing 11.5 ppg - the second best on the team. Carldell "Squeaky" Johnson has team-highs of 4.0 assists and 2.2 steals per game.

USF (7-18, 1-13 C-USA) enters the contest on a four-game losing streak after dropping a 69-60 decision at East Carolina. The Bulls are led by Terrence Leather who has team-highs of 15.2 points and 8.5 boards per game. Bradley Mosely (14.4 ppg) and Brian Swift (10.2 ppg) each average double figures as well. Swift also leads the team with 4.2 per contest, while Gerrick Morris has blocked 100 shots this season (4.0/game) which leads Conference USA.

The game can be heard locally on WYDE 101.1 FM with the pregame show beginning at 5:30 p.m. CST.
