BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Alan Ogg, a former 7-2 center who was one of coach Gene Bartow's outstanding players at UAB in the late 1980s, passed away Sunday. Ogg, who attended Gardendale High School before coming to UAB in 1986, was 42. He died at UAB Hospital after complications from an infection. "We are deeply saddened by the news of Alan Ogg's passing," said UAB Athletics Director Brian Mackin. "Alan has been a part of the UAB family for a long time, as an outstanding player and since then as a great supporter of our program, and our hearts and prayers go out to the Ogg family." Ogg played at UAB from 1986-90. He is still the Blazers' all-time leader in blocked shots with 266 and is third in career field goal percentage. He set a single-game record for UAB with 12 blocks against Florida A&M in 1988. Ogg played in 123 games for the Blazers and made 75 starts. He was named second-team All-Sun Belt Conference in 1989-90. In 1986-87, Ogg was named to the Sun Belt All-Freshman team. After finishing his career at UAB, Ogg saw action for three seasons in the NBA, playing two seasons for the Miami Heat and later with Milwaukee and Washington.
