After sitting out the 2001 season following his transfer from Auburn, Whitmore came on the scene with the Blazers in 2002 and made an impact both on defense as well as special teams ... made an even greater impact last fall in secondary as he became a regular contributor ... listed as starter at free safety for UAB entering fall practice. 2003: Had breakout season for the Blazers in defensive backfield ...played in all 12 games and started seven for UAB ... finished season ranked No. 8 on the team in tackles with 58, including 42 solo stops ... also recorded four tackles for loss for minus 15 yards ... led team in interceptions with three with returns of 29 yards ... also had six pass breakups with one QB hurry and one forced fumble ... recorded interceptions against TCU, Georgia and South Florida ... his interception and subsequent 29-yard return in the early portion of the second half at Georgia helped set up a 47-yard Nick Hayes field goal that gave UAB a 13-10 lead in Athens ... earned Conference USA Defensive Player-of-the-Week honors following his performance against Georgia as he had six tackles, one interception, a tackle for loss and three pass breakups .. recorded a season-high 10 tackles vs. Troy State ... also registered eight tackles against South Carolina. 2002: Saw extensive action during the season on special teams and as backup in Blazer secondary ... was in on 13 tackles during the season, including 10 solo hits ... had one pass breakup and a caused fumble (in season finale at Cincinnati). 2001: Sat out season after transferring from Auburn.
