UAB Works Out In Pads For First Time Saturday

March 22, 2008

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team went through its third day of spring practice, and its first in full pads, Saturday afternoon. The Blazers practiced two hours at the practice facility, where they were able to have full contact for the first time since November.

"There was a lot of contact today," said UAB head coach Neil Callaway. "I thought it was a good thing. We had a lot of good competition. The guys were competing well with each other."

Callaway, who is leading UAB through its second spring practice as head coach, was pleased with the effort and enthusiasm that he saw from his team today.

"With today being the first practice in pads, I thought it went good," said Callaway. "There was a lot of enthusiasm. It was good to see the guys act like they were having fun and enjoying it. Overall, I thought it was a good practice."

Just three practices into the 15-practice spring schedule, Callaway has seen improvement with his squad and is happy with the team's work ethic.

"We are always going to work hard out here," said Callaway. "The guys have a good attitude and are committed to working hard every practice."

UAB's next spring practice session will be Monday. The Blazers will conclude spring practice with a scrimmage on April 12.
