Blazers Continue To Prep For Opener With Tulsa

Aug. 21, 2008

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB football team participated in a closed practice Thursday afternoon at Legion Field. The Blazers practiced for more than two hours as they continue preparations for the season opener Aug. 30 versus Tulsa.

"We did mostly some rehearsal for the game against Tulsa," UAB second-year head coach Neil Callaway said. "It was good to get into the stadium again and good to get out here and let our guys get used to the turf."

Thursday's practice was the second time this preseason that UAB has been on the field at Legion Stadium. The Blazers also held a scrimmage last Saturday at the stadium.

UAB is now nine days away from the opening contest against the Golden Hurricane at Legion Field. The game marks the first time the Blazers have opened a season against a Conference USA opponent.

The squad will continue to work against the scout team for the next week leading up to the Tulsa contest.

"We still have a lot of work to do to get ready," Callaway said. "We're still trying to get all the kinks worked out."

The football program will host its second annual "Breakfast with the Blazers" Fan Day on Saturday at Bartow Arena. The event includes breakfast served by the UAB coaching staff from 9-10 a.m. and an autograph session with players and coaches from 10-11 a.m. The breakfast is free for season ticket holders and UAB students. The cost is $5 for all other guests.
