UAB Continues Preparations For Saturday's Game At South Carolina

Sept. 24, 2008

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team spent 20 five-minute periods at the practice fields on Wednesday afternoon preparing for its upcoming contest at South Carolina.

The Blazers spent close to two hours working on their game plan for the Gamecocks. UAB head coach Neil Callaway has been pleased with this week's practice sessions so far.

"Today was a good practice," said Callaway. "Yesterday was really good. I think that we've got a lot of good work in so far this week.

"We spent today working on their (South Carolina) tendencies, what they do and how they do things."

UAB will have a tough challenge with South Carolina's physical defense, which ranks ninth in the nation by allowing just 225.0 yards per game. The Blazers hope their running game, which produces 189.3 ypg, combined with their passing game (225.0 ypg) will help them overcome that obstacle.

Despite the stingy defense that will be awaiting UAB, Callaway has not changed his practice plan and feels his players are well prepared for the challenge.

"We're just practicing like we normally practice," said Callaway. "Guys are practicing fast and playing fast and we're getting good work in."

Kickoff between UAB and South Carolina is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, S.C.

The game will be carried on the Blazers ISP Sports Network, WWMM 100.5 FM radio. David Crane will be on the air beginning at 4:30 p.m. CT with pre-game coverage. In addition to the radio coverage, the game will also be available on television through ESPN GamePlan.

In addition the game will be streamed live nationally on ESPN360.com -- ESPN's signature broadband sports TV network. The game is available completely free to any student on campus (in fact, to any student on any U.S. college campus -- nearly 18 million people).
