Men's Golf Finishes Tied For 15th at Capital Classic

ROCKY FACE, Ga. - The UAB men's golf team struggled in the final round of the Carpet Capital Classic, closing play tied for 15th overall with a team score of 890 (299-289-302). Senior Zack Sucher, who finished 13th overall, led the Blazers in the event.

UAB entered the final round in ninth overall, but shot a team total of 302 on Sunday to drop the Blazers six spots on the day. Senior Cathal O'Malley and junior Adam West each had a 75 on the final 18 holes to result in the low round of the afternoon for the Blazers.

Sucher led UAB for a second consecutive tournament, as he finished the 54-hole event with a 1-over par 217 (70-71-76). The Mobile, Ala. native entered the round in second overall at 3-under par, but a four-over 76 on the day dropped him out of the top 10.

Adam West was the next highest UAB finisher, closing the event with a five-over par 221 (75-71-75). He was followed by twin brother Blake West, who ended tied for 75th overall with a 13-over par 229 (78-75-76).

Sophomore Blake Watts was in 77th with a 230 (76-72-82), while O'Malley rounded out the Blazers with a 19-over par 238 (86-77-75).

UT-Chattanooga captured the tournament title with an even par 864, followed by Tennessee (869), South Carolina (870), Clemson (872) and Florida (873) to round out the top five.

The Blazers will next be in action on Sept. 22-23 when they host the third annual Shoal Creek Intercollegiate at the Shoal Creek Country Club. Admission for all three rounds (two on Monday and one on Tuesday) is free to the general public.
