BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Fresh off his first medalist honor of the 2008-09 campaign, UAB senior Zack Sucher was selected as the Conference USA Men's Golfer of the Week, league officials announced on Wednesday. The honor marks the fifth time Sucher has won the award in his career.

"This is a great honor for Zack and one he is very deserving of," UAB head coach Alan Kaufman said. "He had an outstanding tournament and played very well throughout the event. I am glad the league recognized him for his effort."

The 2007-08 Conference USA Golfer of the Year led the Blazers to a third-place finish with a team score of 890 (301-294-295). Sucher tied East Tennessee State's Rhys Enoch for co-medalist honors with a tournament total of two-under par 214.

Sucher began the event with an even par 72, followed by a three-under par 69 during the second round. His final round one-over 73 was highlighted by three birdies. Sucher and Enoch finished four strokes ahead of the nearest competition and were the only golfers in the event to finish under par.

Sucher and his teammates will next be in action on Oct. 13-14 at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate.
