Brad Smith Tabbed C-USA Men's Golfer Of The Week
Nov. 7, 2007
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB's Brad Smith was named the Conference USA Men's Golfer of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday. Smith, who earns his second weekly league honor this fall, led the Blazers to the Sam Hall Intercollegiate championship on Nov. 5-6 with a seventh-place finish, marking his third top-10 finish of the fall season. "Brad played really well and he is deserving of this honor," UAB head coach Alan Kaufman said. "He has been a solid golfer throughout the fall season and showed how much hard work pays off. I am proud that he has earned this recognition." Smith, who entered the event leading UAB with a 71.58 per round stroke average, finished with an even-par 213, after carding rounds of 68-71-74. Smith's opening round of three-under par 68 matched his season-best round and was the lowest round of the fall season for the nation's 79th-best golfer, according to Golfweek.com. Likewise, his three-round mark of 213 matched his season-low round, set on two other occasions during the fall campaign. Smith and the Blazers collected three second-place finishes and a first-place result in four of the five tournaments played during the fall campaign. The tournament concludes the fall campaign, as UAB will next be in action on Feb. 9-10 at the Gator Invitational.
