Sucher Finshes Seventh At All-America Golf Classic

Nov. 20, 2007

EL PASO, Texas -- UAB men's golfer Zach Sucher finished tied for seventh overall at the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic. The two-day, 54-hole tournament was played at the par 71, 6,837-yard El Paso Golf Country Club.

The tournament is invitation only, pitting the 28 returning All-American golfers from the 2006-07 season. An honorable mention All-American last year, Sucher finished strong over the final 36 holes. After opening play with a 73 over the first 18 holes, Sucher proved he belongs among the nation's elite. The Mobile, Ala. native carded back-to-back rounds of 67 to finish at six-under par 207.

Wake Forest's Webb Simpson birdied five holes on the back nine of the final round to take medalist honors with 15-under par 198 (62-72-64). It is the fourth best total in tournament history.

Each university that has a player participating in the tournament will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
