Former UAB Golfer Garrett Osborn Earns A Spot On Nationwide Tour
Dec. 3, 2007
WINTER GARDEN, Fla. - Former UAB men's golfer Garrett Osborn finished tied for 47th at the 2007 National Qualifying Tournament, which earned him a spot on the Nationwide Golf Tour. Osborn finished the six-round, week-long event with a 10-under par 422. The "q-school" is played in three stages at the end of each season. The grueling PGA Tour National Qualifying Tournament eventually determines the 25 players (and ties) who receive their Tour cards for the following year. Osborn, who advanced to the final stage, received his players card on the Nationwide Tour. Osborn struggled through the opening three rounds of the event. The Mountain Brook, Ala. native opened with a two-over par 74, his only over par round of the q-school tournament. Following rounds of 71 and 72, Osborn entered the tournament's fourth day at one-over par. That's when he stepped up his play. During his fourth round, Osborn recorded seven birdies and only one bogey to finish with a six-under 66. He followed that performance with a pair of eagles on the front nine during the fifth round, and closed with a four-under 67 to place him in a tie for 52nd overall entering into the sixth and final round. Osborn improved one more stroke with a 71 to earn the qualifying score.
