UAB Men's Soccer Falls to Yale 2-1 in Overtime
Sept. 23, 2001 Brian Larkin deflected a Brian Roberts cross 9:36 into overtime to lead Yale (3-1) to a 2-1 win over No. 8 UAB for the championship of the Yale-FILA Classic in New Haven, Conn. It was the first loss for the Blazers who fell to 4-1 on the year. Yale's two goals were the first two goals allowed this season by UAB. Yale scored first and led 1-0 at the half. Ryan Raybould scored in the 40th minute of the first half for the first goal allowed by UAB. The Blazers came out and quickly tied the match in the second half. Martin Rey scored his second goal of the season just 2:29 into the second half. That was it for the scoring until Larkin's goal. UAB goalkeeper Clint Baumstark did record six saves. Yale goalkeeper Russ Stroud had three saves. Baumstark, a freshman, now has a 0.39 goals against average through the first five matches.
UAB hosts Marquette, Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. in a makeup of a game that was postponed last week. It is the first Conference USA match of the season for the Blazers.
