Blazers Beat Marquette 2-1 For Fourth Straight Road Win

Oct. 27, 2000

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin - Jonathan Weimer scored on a header from close range in the 103rd minute to give UAB a 2-1 double overtime win over Marquette in Conference USA play in Milwaukee, Friday night.

The Blazers now have a seven-match unbeaten streak. They are 10-3-2 overall and 4-1-2 in C-USA. Marquette fell to 9-7-2 overall and 1-6 in the league.

The winning goal came from inside the box in a mad scramble. Juan Carlos Deras and Rumbani Munthali were credited with assists. It was the fourth straight road game that the Blazers won in overtime.

The Blazers trailed 1-0 at the half after Marquette's Marshall Morehead rebounded his own miss to score the goal in the 43rd minute.

That lead stayed until the 83rd minute when UAB's Jermie Frankson scored on a two-on-one break on an assist from Mike Garcia. It was Frankson's fourth goal in the last six matches.

Both teams attempted nine shots for the match. UAB goalkeeper David Clemente recorded five saves and dropped his goals against average to 0.93. That is currently the best single season average in UAB history.
