UAB Narrowly Falls, 2-1 to Saint Louis in C-USA Championship

Nov. 12, 2000

Box Score

Saint Louis's Brad Davis scored one goal and set up another as the Billikens edged UAB 2-1 to win the Conference-USA Tournament Championship in its own Robert Hermann Stadium, in St. Louis.

The 13th-ranked Blazers are now 14-4-2 and will learn Monday afternoon if they will advance to their second straight NCAA Tournament. Prior to Sunday loss, UAB had gone 11 straight matches without a defeat. Saint Louis has now handed the Blazers their last two defeats, both by one goal.

Saint Louis, who won the regular season championship by just one-half game over the Blazers, receives the leagues automatic bid with a 13-3-2.

Davis scored the first goal of the match right before the half at the 43:10 mark. He set up the next goal on a pass with which Vedad Alagic scored at 60:52 to make the score 2-0.

The Blazers Lane Knight scored less than three minutes later of a pass from Houston Smith to cut the margin back to one. However, that ended the scoring. It was Knight's team-leading seventh goal. He has five goals in the last four matches.

As for the Blazers case for an NCAA bid, they own a win over second-ranked North Carolina and 15th-ranked Furman. UAB advanced to the NCAA Tournament's "Elite Eight" last year.
