Petrich In Singles Final, Emery and Ly To Play In Doubles Final

Sept. 20, 2008

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. ----- UAB's Thomas Petrich will play for a singles title Sunday while teammates Brian Ly and Alex Emery will compete for a doubles championship here at the Baras Fall Tennis Classic.

Petrich will play in the B1 division singles after advancing with a 7-5, 6-4 semifinal win over UNC Greensboro's Yaroslav Litus. Petrich will meet another UNCG player, Orcun Seyrek on Sunday.

Meanwhile, in the A1 doubles flight, UAB's tandem of Ly and Emery won two matches Saturday to reach Sunday's championship match. The Blazer duo defeated Peter Sauska and Pavel Vostrikov of UT Chattanooga, 8-5 in the quarterfinals before downing the UNCG team of Seyrek and Arsel Kumderelli by an 8-3 score in the semifinals.

Ly and Emery will now play the Belmont team of Renato Antun and Joao Pallileo who prevented an all-UAB final by edging the Blazers Tyrone Ewels and Daniel Moser, 9-8 (5) in the semfinals.

UAB's Brian Ly, the tournament's No. 1 seed in the A1 singles division, bounced back from his opening day upset loss, to advance to Sunday's consolation final. Ly bested Fausto Rocha of Belmont Saturday in the consolation semifinals, 6-4, 6-3. He will now face UTC's Sauska in the final.

In the A2 division for singles, the Blazers's Dan Cornei fell in his semifinal match to Kumderelli of UNCG, 6-2, 6-2.
